If you have ever seen the advertisements that appear alongside organic search results on Google and other search engines, you are already familiar with pay-per-click, or PPC advertising.
What actually is PPC Advertising?
This model of advertising allows advertisers to display ads for the services and goods they offer when users enter relevant search queries in to Google and other search engines. A charge is only made when a user clicks on an ad hence the may pay per click. Keyword advertising is another name that this system is sometimes referred to.
How does this system works for advertising?
You will need to bid for certain keywords dependent on your competitors which may rise the price of certain keywords. This is knows as an ad auction. This is an entirely automated process and allows Google to present the best ads for the relevant keywords bid for.
Pay-Per-Click Advertising: Keywords
As the name implies, the Ad Auction is a bidding system that allows advertisers to bid on the terms they want to “trigger,” or display, in the search engine results pages. These terms are known as keywords or quires.
Say, for example, that your business specializes in kids toys. A user wanting to purchase toy cars, action figures, or a trampoline might enter the keyword “kids toys” into a search engine to find retailers offering these items.
At the moment the user submits their keyword query, the search engine performs the complex calculation that the Ad Auction is based upon. This determines which ads are shown, and what order, and by which advertiser.
